PRAYING AS JESUS PRAYED

Text: 1 Peter 2:21

1. The Prayer Life of Jesus:

A. Prayed often – If He being perfect needed to pray often, how about us?

1) Some pray only when things go wrong, etc.

2) 1 Thess. 5:17 – Pray without ceasing.

B. Prayed early in the morning – Mark 1:35

1) Is this the way you start the day? Too busy?

C. On some occasions He prayed all night – Luke 6:12

1) People can stay up all night to do anything but pray.

2) Realized the value of prayer:

a. James 5:16-18

b. Matt. 7:11

D. Jesus went out into a dessert place to pray away from His disciples – Lk. 5:16; Matt. 26:36-46

1) Matt. 6:5-6

E. Jesus Prayed Publicly

1) Grave of Lazarus – John 11 – On the cross

2. Things That Characterized His Prayers:

A. Lived a life that God would hear His prayers – John 9:31

1) James 5:16; Acts 8:24; 1 Peter 3:12

B. Believed God would hear His prayers – John 11:41-42

1) James 1:5-7; 1 John 5:15

C. Prayed being submissive to His Father’s will – Matt. 26:36-46

1) 1 John 5:14 – And this is the confidence we have in Him.

D. Prayed fervently – Lk. 22:39-44; Heb. 5:7; Us – James 5:16

E. Prayed modestly and simply – no big words – Matt. 6:7

F. Prayed with thanksgiving – Mt. 11:25

3. Those For Whom He Prayed:

A. Disciples – John 17:9-11; James 5:16 – “Confess your faults…”

B. Simon Peter – Lk. 22:31-32

C. His enemies – Lk. 23:34

D. Prayed for us before we were born – John 17:20-21

E. Ever lives to pray for us – Heb. 7.25
